Tax Notices Don’t Destroy Businesses — Poor Responses Do

Most businesses that go through a tax notice scrutiny do not collapse because of what the notice says. They collapse because of what they do next. The notice itself is rarely the problem. It is a question. Sometimes an uncomfortable one, sometimes badly timed, sometimes based on a mismatch that has a perfectly logical explanation. But it is still just a question. The problem starts when that question gets a panicked, disorganised, or flat-out wrong answer. Businesses across Mumbai lose money, credibility, and sometimes years of hard-built reputation not because they evaded taxes, but because they did not know how to respond properly. And that is a fixable problem, if you catch it early.
